Instagram MCP connector

The Instagram connector lets AI agents analyze and manage Instagram Business and Creator accounts through InsightfulPipe's hosted MCP server at https://instagram.insightfulmcp.com/ (server name instagram-analytics-mcp). It covers account and post insights, follower demographics, live stories, comments, publishing and public profile lookups of other business accounts.

Actions: 19 (11 read, 8 write). Workspace owners, admins and operators choose which actions each connected account exposes, and destructive actions are off by default.

Add it from a terminal, then click Authorize access in the browser window that opens:

What agents can do

Account insights: reach and follower count over time, follower demographics, profile views, website clicks and profile link taps.
Posts and reels: list recent media and get insights for each post, such as reach, views, likes, comments, saves and shares.
Stories: list the account's current stories.
Comments: read comments and replies, comment, reply, hide or unhide, delete, and turn comments on or off for a post.
Publishing: create a media container, check its processing status, then publish it.
Competitor lookups: get the profile and recent public media of another Instagram Business or Creator account by username.

Before you connect

An Instagram Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page.
A Facebook login that manages that Page. The connection uses Facebook Login to find the Instagram account.

Connect Instagram

In the InsightfulPipe app, open Connectors, choose Instagram and click Connect.
Choose Read Only or Read + Write.
Sign in with Facebook and approve access.
Select the Instagram accounts to connect.
Add the MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT or another client, then click Authorize access.

Permissions and safety

Commenting, moderation and publishing need Read + Write.
Publishing is a two-step process: the container is created and checked first, and only publish_media makes the post public.
delete_comment is destructive, so it stays off until an owner, admin or operator enables it in Configure actions for this account.

Limits

Stories are only available while they are live. Once a story's 24 hours are up, Instagram no longer returns it, so query stories before they expire.
No hashtag search or hashtag performance actions.
Use views to compare posts and reels; it is the view count Instagram reports today.

Troubleshooting

The Instagram account isn't listed: make sure it is a Business or Creator account and linked to a Facebook Page your login manages, then reconnect.
A story is missing: it has probably expired.
"This account is connected read-only, so this action cannot be enabled for it." Reconnect with Read + Write to comment or publish.
