Is this WooCommerce's official MCP server?

No. WooCommerce has its own MCP integration, currently a developer preview that you enable and run on your store. InsightfulPipe is an independent, hosted MCP server that connects to your store through the WooCommerce REST API, and is not affiliated with WooCommerce or Automattic.

Which AI assistants does it work with?

Any AI client that supports remote MCP servers. The setup guide on this page covers Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI and Codex. You can also work with the same connected stores from the terminal with the InsightfulPipe CLI.

Is there a Claude connector for WooCommerce?

Yes. In Claude, add https://woocommerce.insightfulmcp.com/ as a custom connector and authorize your InsightfulPipe account. You can also add InsightfulPipe from the Claude Directory, which connects all of your linked accounts at once.

Can I use the WooCommerce MCP server with ChatGPT?

Yes. Add the server URL as a custom connector in ChatGPT Developer mode, or add InsightfulPipe from the ChatGPT app directory to connect all of your linked accounts. Developer mode availability depends on your ChatGPT plan.

What WooCommerce data can my AI access?

Orders, order notes and refunds, products, variations, categories, tags, attributes and reviews, customers, coupons, shipping zones and methods, tax classes and rates, the sales, top seller, order total and customer total reports, and the store's system status.

Can it make changes to my store?

Yes, when your REST API key has Read/Write permission. It can create and update products, variations, categories, tags, attributes, coupons, customers and orders, add order notes, create refunds and manage product reviews. A key with Read permission only allows reading.

Can I connect multiple WooCommerce stores?

Yes. Connect each store with its own API key. When more than one store is connected, name the store you want in your request. Each store counts as one connection on your plan.

How does authentication work?

WooCommerce uses REST API keys. You create a consumer key and consumer secret under WooCommerce, Settings, Advanced, REST API, and paste them into InsightfulPipe with your store URL. InsightfulPipe stores them encrypted. Your AI client signs in to the MCP server with your InsightfulPipe account, not your WordPress login.

A WooCommerce MCP server connects a WooCommerce store to AI assistants through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for giving AI tools access to data and actions. Once connected, you can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor about sales, orders and products, or ask it to update the store, instead of working in WordPress admin.

WooCommerce's integration is a developer preview that runs inside your store. You enable the feature, authenticate with a WordPress Application Password over HTTPS, and remote AI clients connect through a local proxy. It covers querying, creating, updating and deleting products, and querying orders, updating order status and adding notes. InsightfulPipe is hosted, connects with a REST API key, and adds reports, customers, coupons, refunds and per-store action controls.

You control the risk. Create a Read-only API key if you only want reporting, and choose exactly which actions your AI can use on each store. Deleting orders, products and reviews stays off until an owner, admin or operator enables it, and deleted orders and products go to the trash unless permanent deletion is requested. Refunds are a regular write action, so turn off refund creation where agents should not issue refunds. Restricted members only get read actions on the stores they are granted.

Reports return WooCommerce's built-in report totals rather than the WooCommerce Analytics dashboards. Data from extensions such as subscriptions or bookings is not covered, and payment gateway and store settings cannot be changed. Your store must allow REST API requests, which some security plugins and hosts block. Lists return up to 100 records per page, and your assistant pages through larger results.
